Where do Salads come from?


Teachers Notes

In preparation for this exercise you need to buy in a range of Salads products that you want to talk about. The following are recommended:

Tomatoes

Peppers

Lettuce- different types

Cucumbers

Radish

Beetroot

Spring onions

Salad cress

1. Start the session with a question

What are salads?

2. Move onto holding up an example of each and find out what the class know about each product.

What is this?

Where are they grown?
    In greenhouse
    Outside in the soil

How are they grown?
    Horizontal crops
    Vertical crops

The table below provides some very basic information about each product.
