Sowing & Growing
Sowing the seed
Salad cress is grown in our bespoke growing tray. The trays pass down an automated sowing line.
The raw materials – peat, seed, water and fertiliser – are delivered directly onto the trays, which are then removed from the end of the line and placed in a controlled environment.
Growing the seed
The trays are left to allow the seed to germinate i.e. develop roots and grow the shoots.
The germinated trays are placed on benching in glasshouses.
Glasshouses provide a controlled environment, with temperature, light level and watering maintained at optimum levels to produce high quality salad cress that meets our customer’s specification
.Quality control
When the salad cress reaches the desired specification, representative samples are taken and tested for harmful bacteria. The salad cress is removed and stored at 3°C ready for packing or processing when cleared for release.
Please note: The high levels of hygiene employed at our premises, mean that we do not need to use pesticides in any shape or form.
