We do more than just grow salad cress. We endeavour to implement best practice procedures at all times; from growing a quality product to relationships with our employees, suppliers and customers.

The basis of our philosophy is care, attention and respect, for each and every thing within our companyand for the environment and the local community.

Our history

W.S. Bentley [Growers] Ltd is a family business started out in 1956 as a market garden producing and selling spring onions, beetroot and radishes.

In the early 1960's salad cress was added to the list of produce and gradually took over the entire operation. In fact since 1972 we have concentrated our efforts and specialised in the production of salad cress.

Over thirty years and three generations later our salad cress is in demand by supermarkets, wholesalers, distributors and caterers.

Convenient location

We are based just 5 minutes from the M62 between Leeds and Bradford. This is an ideal location for accessing the UK's major motorway networks and allows us to transport our salad cress by road quickly and easily.

Investing in high standards

Quality control plays a vital role in ensuring we provide our customers with high quality salad cress. To this end we're accredited to the Assured Produce scheme and work to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) standard. Our systems are also subjected to continuous evaluation based on HACCP (hazards analysis and critical control points).

What's more, we're an Investors in People accredited company and our experienced and trained team is always happy to help.
